Takayasu’s arteritis, also known as pulseless disease, aortic arch syndrome, young female arteritis, occlusive thromboarthopathy or idiopathic arteritis, is an autoimmune condition affecting all layers of arteries especially the aorta and its branches. Due to long standing vasculitis, there can be stenosis, thrombosis or aneurysm of major vessels of the heart, kidney, brain, lungs and limbs. Perioperative challenges could be severe uncontrolled hypertension, end-organ dysfunction, stenosis of major blood vessels, and monitoring and maintenance of arterial blood pressure. The pregnancy related changes could further complicate the above challenges. Here we present our experience of two term pregnant ladies with Takayasu’s arteritis undergone lower segment caesarean section under regional anaesthesia.
